In addition to all the fan activities taking place in Las Vegas around the national championship game, the CFP Foundation is already hard at work making an impact in classrooms across southern Nevada. Each year, the CFP Foundation develops a comprehensive strategy to support teachers within the local community of the CFP National Championship host. The CFP Foundation and its Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) platform works in partnership with local institutions of higher education, sports organizations, corporations, and nonprofits to elevate the teaching profession by supporting educators and helping improve student outcomes.
The CFP Foundation will put Las Vegas teachers in the spotlight throughout national championship weekend with activities aimed at honoring and empowering educators. The CFP Foundation’s signature event, the Extra Yard for Teachers Summit, is slated for Saturday, January 23, where teachers, coaches and administrators from the area come together for an inspirational and high energy event featuring guest speakers from the education, sports and entertainment sectors with a shared passion for PK-12 education and who recognize the importance teachers make on student outcomes. Past speakers and presenters have included Miguel Cardona, U.S. Secretary of Education; Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State; Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org; Pitbull, global superstar; Carl Lewis, nine-time Olympic gold medalist; ESPN’s Desmond Howard, Holly Rowe and Jess Sims; and many more. The 2027 event will offer in-person (for local educators) and virtual live and on-demand options for teachers across the country to attend the event at no cost. Registration for both the in-person event and online options will open in the coming months at CFP-Foundation.org.
Working in conjunction with the Clark County School District (CCSD), the CFP Foundation's primary host city investment in Las Vegas will be focused on training over 1,000 teachers using 95 RAP, a specialized reading intervention training program which will support over 280,000 area students who face learning obstacles and dyslexia. Training began on Monday, April 6 at over 12 satellite campuses across CCSD.
Additionally, the CFP Foundation has committed to transforming 15 CCSD school libraries and community spaces into innovation media centers through its Extra Yard Makeover Project presented by School Specialty. In total, over $750,000 will be invested in these Extra Yard Makeovers across the county.
The CFP Foundation will also bring additional initiatives to Las Vegas focus on recognizing educators, a key role in their retention. This programming will include surprise visits across 50 schools, as well as the implementation of its Honored Schools program to ensure Clark County area educators feel valued and inspired, while also encouraging the community to celebrate those teachers who shape the next generation.
Together, the CFP Foundation and CFP 2027 Las Vegas Host Committee will invest nearly $4 million in the next two years across all of the programs that will support students in all 374 Clark County schools.
“We are excited to begin working with the Clark County School District in supporting the great work of teachers in this community,” said Britton Banowsky, executive director of the CFP Foundation. “The CFP Foundation worked closely with the host committee and CCSD to design a meaningful impact strategy that meets the needs of the education community. Investing in reading intervention training for teachers is the perfect example of identifying a key need here in Clark County and addressing it head on.”
The 2027 CFP National Championship will take place at Allegiant Stadium on Monday, January 25, 2027 at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT. The game will air live on ESPN.
